View of Governor's Island

Pattern Category: Places

Series: Floral Border

Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares

  • Diameter: 10 inches

This soup plate, its only known form, is another of Stevenson's Floral Border Series of three views (see View on the Road to Lake George). Governor's Island is in New York Bay about a quarter of a mile from the Battery. It was named because the colonial governors in the 17th century spent their summers there. In the center of the view is Castle Williams.
