St. Paul's Chapel

Pattern Category: Places

Series: Acorn and Oak Leaves Border

Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares

Description:

This pattern is seen here on a plate. It is known on a 5.75 inch,  a 6.25 inch and a 6.4 inch plate.  No other form has been documented.  It is marked with a ribbon-shaped cartouche on the back with the name of the scene.   The center scene is also used by Stevenson on his single medallion plates with Erie Canal inserts.  The medallion portraits used were of Clinton, Jefferson, La Fayette, and Washington.  This is sometimes mistakenly referred to as St. Paul's Church.
