The title mark, commonly appearing on the back of plates and soup bowls (as here), has not been identified as to maker.  Shown here on this soup bowl,  the United States Hotel, in Philadelphia, stood opposite the United States Bank on Chestnut Street.  It was opened in 1826 and operated for about 30 years, then was purchased by the Bank of Philadelphia.
