- Width: 9.5 inches
Considered Rare Description:
This 9.5 inch square bowl is housed in the Larsen Collection at the Smithsonian Museum and may well be unique. It bears four portraits on the interior, Washington, Jefferson, Clinton and La Fayette, one on each of the four interior sides. On two of the outside panels are vignettes of the Erie Canal, the Aqueduct Bridge at Little Falls, and the Aqueduct Bridge at Rochester. The other two outside panels have unidentified English country views. The border is Stevenson's Acorn and Oak Leaves border.
Technically, because of authors' terminology, when a piece has an English view, and this border, it is called "Acorn and Oak Leaf" border. The America views have been dubbed "Acorn and Oak Leaves" border. This seems to be a distinction without a purpose. We have elected to use the American version for the name of this border.
