Baltimore & Ohio Railroad (so-called)

Pattern Category: Places

Series: Diorama

Object Type: Wares for Coffee and Tea

Description:

This saucer depicts what appear to be two railcars or a primitive locomotive, and stage car, with workers in the foreground, perhaps building the tracks.  It has been referred to as B&O Railroad or Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, but is not to be confused with Enoch Wood's Circular Shell Border versions of the same title, which can be seen in this exhibit.   The border indicates that this is part of the so-called Diorama Series.  Another illustration of the steam engine and passenger coach, but made for the German market, is known on a child's plate entitled Steam Coach Between London and Bristol
