Union Line #2Pattern Category: Naval and Marine Series: Shell Border, Irregular or Grotto-Shaped Center Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares Dimensions:
Description: This plate is similar to #1, but there are marked differences in the waves, clouds, shoreline, and the rope running from the ship to the small boat, etc. The old Union Line was formed in 1820 to run between Philadelphia and New York. It was the most popular of all the lines between those two cities. References note the resemblance of this view to the "Chief Justice Marshal, Troy Line" version, although close inspection reveals a number of differences in the ship and its rigging. |
