Governor's Island

Pattern Category: Places

Object Type: Dinner and Dessert Wares

Description:

This plate's view is of Governor's Island in New York Bay.  It is quite similar to Andrew Stevenson's View of Governor's Island. (See in this exhibit).  It is about a quarter of a mile from the Battery. It was named because the colonial governors in the 17th century spent their summers there. In the center of the view is Castle Williams.
